A man with dark curly hair and a beard stands with his hands behind his back in an industrial-style room, wearing a white T-shirt and brown trousers. Behind him is a yellow painting, and on the side, there are glass bottles and decanters, a small table with a lamp, and a black leather couch.

Drew Austin McConnell (b.1988) is a colorfield sculptor and painter. His works  are intensely textural and run at-odds with the increasingly digital human experience—often over six feet in height, his large-scale works tower over the viewer.

Each piece begins as raw concrete, shaped by hand, then saturated with pigment to form bold colorful paintings that shift with light and perspective. These works operate as both art objects and design elements; substantial, permanent, and deeply material.

Drew is also a street photographer. While often exhibited on their own, his photographs occasionally converge with his sculptural practice—embedded directly into concrete surfaces to create hybrid works that bridge documentation and architecture.

Born in a small farming town outside Detroit, Drew’s early years in Michigan’s rural & industrial landscapes continue to shape his material sensibility and commitment to authentic, tactile experiences. After time living in downtown Detroit in the 2000s, he spent years moving through a string of American cities before settling in Manhattan with his partner.

Drew also works as a Creative Director for Barcelona Restaurant Group, bringing an architectural perspective to his sculptural practice. His large-scale works are featured prominently in the design-forward Barcelona Wine Bar and Corsica restaurants.
